Chris Okibi is an innovative and unconventional DJ, producer, and live performance artist. With an early beginning in jungle and drum & bass and mentoring from some of the west coast’s finest, Okibi has firmly established himself in the growing bass music scene, playing alongside artists such as 12th Planet, Noah D, Alix Perez, Capital J, Downlink, RCola, and ill.Gates.

Okibi brings a diverse selection of styles to every set, from forward-thinking juke, funky and footwork, to rolling liquid riddims, dubwise exclusives, and grimey dubstep. Steeped in the hip-hop tradition, Okibi utilizes turntablism techniques, effects, and MIDI controllers in the mix, creating a unique and eclectic soundscape.

Okibi’s left-field productions continue to push the envelope within the evolving bass music scene, drawing influences from everything from gangster rap to disco. In late 2006, he founded Union Sound System, a steadily growing network of avant-garde artists. Involved in a number of projects, from the Victoria Nightlife Award nominated Dreadsteppas DJ crew, to the live p.a. electro-punk stylings of AUTOMATON, Okibi stays true to old-school roots while pioneering future vibes.
